Finances and Important Dates

Last day to register for a summer online course:

  • Term 1 - May 13, 2014
  • Term 2 -June 23, 2014

Last day to drop a summer online course:

  • Term 1 - May 19, 2014
  • Term 2 - June 27, 2014

Last day to withdraw from a summer online course:

  • Term 1 -June 6, 2014
  • Term 2 - July 18, 2014

Summer 2014 online courses are an affordable option, discounted heavily compared to the same courses offered during the academic year.

  • The cost of each course will be $125 per credit hour.
  • There is no technology fee for summer online courses.
  • The cost of textbooks and other course materials is incurred separately.

eBill statements for Summer will start to go out in mid-March, and will continue on a monthly basis through mid-June.  Please see www.houghton.edu/ebillinfo for more information.

Online Summer Session Refund Policy:

Refunds on all charges will be prorated on a per diem basis based on the academic calendar up to the 60 percent point in the term. There are no refunds after that time. Students withdrawing before the classes begin for a given term will receive a 100 percent refund of charges. A copy of the worksheet used for the refund calculation can be requested from Student Financial Services (email: sfso@houghton.edu; phone: x3280 or 585-567-9328; or by visiting their Luckey Building office)

Requests for Drops or Withdrawals

All requests for drops must be emailed to the Academic Records Office (academicrecords@houghton.edu) by 5 pm ET,  May 19, 2014  for Term 1 and by June 27, 2014 for Term 2.

All requests for withdrawals must be emailed to the Academic Records Office by 5 pm ET,  June 6, 2014  for Term 1 and by July 18, 2014 for Term 2.

The date of the email determines the refund date used above. It is important to note that notifying an instructor does not constitute an official request to drop or withdraw from a course.

Financial Aid

Institutional financial aid does not apply to Summer Online courses because of the deep pricing discounts offered. However, there may be federal financial assistance available in limited situations.
