Fall 2010,  Students arrive in London the morning of Friday September 10, and the last day of classes is Friday December 10th.

Overview

Houghton in London is a full semester taught in London by British and Houghton professors with courses designed to meet Houghton major and integrative requirements. Features: living and studying together in a metropolitan community, London's rich historical and cultural resources, and opportunities for travel and service.

Courses and Credits

12-18 hours. Options in English, Bible, History, Social Sciences, Art. Different options are available each year with Houghton and British evangelical professors.

ENGL 390 Dramatic Lines, taught by Dr. Jim Zoller, member of the Houghton College English and Writing Department and on-site director for Houghton in London 2010

 WRIT 320 Special Topics in Writing:  Travel Writing, also taught by Dr. Jim Zoller

 BIBL 395 Luke’s Two Books:  Luke/Acts and the Origins of the World-Wide Church, taught by Dr. Conrad Gempf at the London School of Theology

HIST 319 The History of Islam and Its Place in Contemporary Britain, taught by Dr. John Azumah at the London School of Theology

ART 230 Western Art Since the Renaissance:  Traditions and the New Global Influences, taught by Prof. Nigel Halliday at the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity

Requirements

  • Typically Juniors and Seniors.
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA.
  • Passport current beyond program end.
  • By application only.

Accommodations

Fine housing and two meals per day provided in Central London. Class and study space at the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity (LICC) and London School of Theology. Includes London Transport pass (subways and busses), e-mail access provided. Students are responsible for their own transportation to London and report directly to London, not the Houghton campus.

Cost

Houghton tuition, HIL fee (includes room, board, and fees) plus travel. Houghton financial aid applies for Houghton students.

Sample costs:

  • Tuition $12,220 (Fall 2009)
  • HIL fee: $5,285
  • TOTAL $17,505 (plus roundtrip airfare)

Applications

Apply online by November 1 for December notification of application acceptance for the following Fall semester. (First year students will receive notification after first semester grades can be considered.) After that, applications accepted continuously based on program space. Early application is advantageous.
