Preparing for Medical School: Sophomore Year
Sophomore Year | Junior Year | Senior Year
Prior to leaving school
after your sophomore year, you must complete an application
packet. These are due May 1st of every year. Failure
to do so will delay the writing of your recommendation
letter by one year. The packet will give the pre-med
program the needed information to assess your application
credentials for medical school.
-
Remember, the pre-med
program reserves the right to decline your request for
an institutional recommendation letter.
During the summer of your
sophomore year, you should begin the
MCAT review.
Ultimately, you are judged against others from across the
country in a standardized test, known as the
MCAT. This is a
difficult exam. In fact, a score of 67% (or 30 out of 45
points, a score that would get you a letter grade in the D
range at Houghton, is considered to be a good score on the
MCAT). Participate in the
MCAT review classes here at
Houghton to assist you in this preparation, which you should
take during your junior year to prepare for the
MCAT.
