Pre-Med Program Timeline

First year

• Take General Biology and General Chemistry, as well as required first year core courses.

• *Get to know the faculty

• Join the Pre-health Professions Club

• Volunteer medical experiences/shadowing a physician

     Summer:

• Volunteer medical experiences/shadowing a physician

Sophomore year

• Take Organic Chemistry

• Take Calculus

• Take other required core courses

• *Get to know the faculty

• Possibly be a teaching assistant or other leadership role

• Complete the application packet for the pre-med program

     Summer:

• Prepare for MCAT

• Volunteer medical experiences/shadowing a physician

• Ask a medical professional for a reference for medical school

• Do summer research (only available to science majors)

Junior year

• Ask 5 individuals for confidential letters of recommendation for medical school

• Attend required meetings for the institutional recommendation letter

• MCAT review class

• Take a research course (only available to science majors)

• Take Physics

• Take other required core courses

• Be a teaching assistant or other leadership role

• Possibly take the MCAT late during the spring

• Submit a list of medical schools to which you intend to apply to the pre-med program before leaving for the summer

     Summer:

• Possibly take or retake the MCAT

• Write a personal statement for the AMCAS application

• Complete the online AMCAS application

Senior year

• Complete courses in preparation for graduation

• Possibly complete secondary applications if they are sent

• Possibly interview for medical school
