David Tideman '79

David TidemanDave Tideman's career as a business lawyer and manager has spanned 22 years with State Farm Insurance Companies, America's largest insurer of automobiles and homes.  He works at the company's Northeast Executive Office in Chadds Ford, PA (suburban Philadelphia).

For the past ten years he has held the position of Corporate Law Counsel for State Farm, working closely with company executives and managers and specializing in regulatory, legislative and compliance matters.  Prior to that, he was Manager for the Company's Northeastern Public Affairs Department, handling government relations, media and community relations, then moved to the Company's headquarters in Bloomington, Illinois, where he became a corporate consultant on Public Affairs for State Farm's operations in the Midwest and Canada.  His State Farm career started in the claims area as an advisor to claims management. He has been active in a number of industry trade associations over the years, currently serving as an officer of the Insurance Council of New Jersey and the Insurance Federation of Pennsylvania.

Before joining State Farm, Dave was in private practice in New York, and he worked for two years as a legal editor and writer for Prentice-Hall Legal and Professional Publications.

Dave earned a B.A. in History (minors in Political Science and Speech) from Houghton College and a Juris Doctorate from the State University of New York, Buffalo School of Law. He was admitted to practice law in New York in 1984 and in New Jersey in 1988, then became licensed as a Pennsylvania In-House Corporate Counsel in 2005.  He is currently enrolled in the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) professional designation program.

Dave is a member of Willowdale Chapel in Kennett Square, PA, where he has served as a small group leader and taught classes on financial perspectives and tithing.  Since 2005 he has been a member of the Board of Trustees at Wilmington Christian School, a 500-student K-12 school in Hockessin, DE. He served on the Executive Committee of the President's Advisory Board at Houghton College from 1998 to 2005.  Dave, his wife Linnea, and their three daughters live in Landenberg, Pennsylvania.
