Joel Silverman
Joel Silverman currently works as One Mission Society’s (OMS) executive director for the United States. Joel came to OMS with a wide range of experience in both leadership and business.
His career in business includes working as the chief operating officer for New York and Company (aka Lerner New York), a women’s apparel firm with 950 locations nationwide and $1.2 billion in revenue.
Then, he served as president and CEO of Galyan’s Sports and Outdoor Adventure, a chain of innovative sporting goods stores specializing in huge, splashy retail spaces. Stores included such activity areas as putting greens and indoor climbing walls, making Galyan's a leader in so-called retail-tainment, where the shopping experience was made into something of an adventure.
His team took the company public through an IPO in 2002. Galyan's grew to 35 locations and $600 million in revenue. Galyan's locations were acquired by Dick's Sporting Goods in 2004.
He then worked as Commissioner of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles for the State of Indiana before coming to OMS in 2008. Alongside his work for OMS, Joel also serves on the board of trustees for Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
Joel received his bachelor’s degree in public administration and an MBA in finance and accounting from the University of Pittsburgh.
Joel is married to Sharmayne, a counselor, and they have three daughters: Melanie, Tamarah, and Jenna, as well as six grandchildren. He and his wife currently live in Greenwood, Indiana.
