David L. Smith '73 Speaks to Business Students
David
L. Smith ’73 is a highly respected veteran at the IBM
Corporation in Rochester where he has served with distinction
for 37 years – the last 20 years being in various management
positions including operations, information technology,
logistics and manufacturing. He currently is a senior project
executive in IBM Global Technology Services Distribution Sector
assigned to the Avis Budget Group account.
Smith has also served as vice president and global project executive with the Bank of Nova Scotia in Toronto and held roles as the global service executive for IBM at Eastman Kodak and Honeywell. He has also served as the Director of Strategic Outsourcing Risk Management.
Smith’s honors include the IBM Market Driven Quality Award, the IBM Award of Excellence and the Leadership Award – Boy Scouts of America Longs Peak Council. He is a graduate of IBM’s Advanced Management School and the IBM Manufacturing Business Development Program at Tuck Business School/Dartmouth.
Smith was a double-major in math and general science at Houghton. He was a standout athlete, participating in both basketball and baseball athletics. He is PMI-certified as a Project Management Professional.
Smith is also an active leader at the Webster Bible Church where he has taught Sunday School for the past 12 years. He and his wife, Cindy ’73, reside in Penfield, N.Y. and have four children: Melissa ’01 (Rob ’00) Luckey, Aimee ’03 (Shane ’03) Dehaven, Jordan ’08 and Tyler.
