Teacher Education Accreditation Council
The Houghton College Teacher Education Program, which
is designed to equip teachers for transformative learning and
service, is granted Accreditation by the Teacher Education
Accreditation Council (TEAC) for a period of ten years, from
October 1, 2011– October 1, 2021.
Strands of the Houghton College undergraduate Teacher
Education Program, which were evaluated in the 2010 Inquiry
Brief, include options in Inclusive Childhood
Education with dual certification leading to
initial certification in Childhood Education (grades 1-6) and
Students with Disabilities (grades 1-6);
Adolescence Education (grades 7-12) in
Augmented History (Social Studies), Biology, Chemistry, English,
Mathematics, Spanish, or Physics; Music
Education (grades Pre-K-12);
Physical Education (grades Pre-K-12); or
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
(grades Pre-K-12).
Note: The recently added majors in Art Education
(PK-12) and Physical-Health Education(PK-12) are approved
programs with the New York State Department of Education.
These new strands in the Houghton College Teacher Education
Program will be reviewed by TEAC in subsequent accreditation
cycles.
