What Alumni and Students Are Saying

Ruthanne Hassey

The math courses I took at Houghton covered a wide range of topics, all of which I found interesting.

Jason Leininger

I loved my years as part of the mathematics community at Houghton College. I learned many important skills that have helped me in law school and in my career, including analytical thinking and teamwork.

I had a wonderful experience at Houghton College and would not trade it for anything. It has certainly helped shape me into the person that I am now. The mathematics faculty continually challenged me to excel. With the training I received, I entered my graduate program at SDSU with ease. I could not have been better prepared.

DanaLea Gorczyca ’04 is a graduate student in mathematics at South Dakota State University, where she is pursuing work in Topology. She is pictured here in front of Crothers Engineering Hall. She and Jason Woehl plan to be married in May 2007.

CURRENT STUDENTS

The Houghton Math department is different than I expected. A good different. The professors are always willing to help you out, whether it is with school work or just to talk things through. They also encourage you to work together. As students you have the chance to learn not only from the professors, but from each other, pulling each other toward the end goal. I have learned to strive to understand what I do in math and why. Learning to type out the process for solving a problem, and reading your texts books bring you to a deeper understanding of your mathematical skills. I am thrilled to be in the Houghton College Math Department, because it has taken me so far already, and who knows how far it will take me in the future.
