Jason Shambach ‘06

Jason ShambachMy formation at Houghton College has continued to pay dividends as I engage both the academic and practical spheres of my life. After Houghton, I pursued a Master’s in Divinity at Asbury Theological Seminary, including a few courses from Princeton Theological Seminary and Drew Divinity School. Having been taught to think critically, I found myself transitioning smoothly in each academic environment I encountered.

My last year as a M.Div. student, I came to New Jersey where I worked as the assistant to the director of Liebenzell Retreat Ministries, the global division of a mission agency. From writing and fundraising to hosting and developing programming, I drew upon my liberal arts education at Houghton, even while bringing my specialization in theology to each task.

Now, as solo pastor of Valley Wesleyan Church in Canaseraga, New York, I have the ability to be a life-long student of theology on my own time as well as ministering to the practical and spiritual needs of a local community. My future goals include doctoral work and collegiate teaching on the mission field, whenever and wherever the Lord calls. Houghton has been an edifying part of my journey and has been used by God to lead me into His service.
