Rev. Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan and family

I began as a history major at Houghton, taking Bible classes on the side. However, my interest in studying the Bible grew, and my extracurricular activities also revolved around ministry, so in the end I decided to add a Bible major. After graduating in 1999, I went to Eastern Seminary which has a strong focus on urban ministry.

After I finished there in 2002, I started serving as pastor of Exton Community Baptist Church in southeastern Pennsylvania, where I still serve today. Also, in 2004, I started part-time doctoral work at Drew University in liturgical studies, the history and theology of Christian worship.

Academically, I love to think critically about the ways Americans worship and why we think as we do about worship; pastorally, I love to craft worship that brings the community into an encounter with the living God. My time at Houghton sparked a deep love of worship and prepared me for success in graduate study. Now I am proud to be part of Houghton's future, as I will be serving as a summer adjunct in the new M.A. in Theology program.
