Transitions 101

Connecting to Houghton College

Strong connections between new students and the college community are foundational for success in and outside of the classroom. At Houghton, we have created a program to facilitate these important connections called Transitions 101: Connecting to Houghton.

This one-day program will prove invaluable in helping students (and parents) make the transition to Houghton this coming fall. All students, both first-year and transfer, are encouraged to attend.

Some highlights of this specially designed day will include:

  • Interaction with faculty
  • An introduction to academic expectations
  • Your preliminary fall class schedule
  • A chance to meet your classmates (maybe even your roommate)

Parents are also important in the college transitions experience. During Transitions 101, special sessions are offered to provide timely information and opportunities for questions and answers with the Parents' Council. In addition, students and parents will be hosted by the Academic Dean's office for a special luncheon.

  • Friday, May 24, 2013
    online registration closed - call to register by the end of the day on Wednesday, May 22

  • Friday, May 31, 2013
    priority registration: Monday, May 20; online registration closes Monday, May 27

Those who register by the priority registration deadline will receive a copy of their fall course schedule on the Transitions 101 day (provided that you also submit your course selection form by this date as well). Those who register after the priority registration deadline may still be able to receive a copy of their schedule but it will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will continue to accept online registration until the posted dates above. After online registration closes, registration can still be taken over the phone until the end of the day on the Wednesday of that week.
