Sonja Classes have been crazy lately. I’m beginning to think that professors secretly collaborate and decide to make all big assignments due at the same time to see us students squirm and beg for mercy (kidding)! Anyway, I was so excited to have Houghton Palooza on Saturday to help me relax and take my mind off of the books. Let me explain. Houghton Palooza is the student run, all-day music festival that invites student bands and solo artists of all different genres to rock out on stage, giving us six straight hours of live music. So, good! The sun was shining bright, so hundreds of students flocked to the lawn with blankets, lawn chairs, and even couches and lazy-boy recliners to enjoy the show. Some people stood by the stage like true, dedicated fans, while others picnicked and played games like corn hole and ladder golf in the grass. A huge open grill was set up, so anyone could bring meat or vegetables to be cooked, yum! There is nothing like some good, old-fashioned barbecue to take a day from good to fantastic. After the last band finished their set, a big screen was set up and we watched a movie on the lawn. It was a perfect way to end the day. It’s a lot easier to get my work done knowing that fun days like this are just around the corner. These days keep me refreshed, and they remind me that life at Houghton isn’t just about academic learning. Next weekend there is a Student Film Festival, so I better get a lot of work done beforehand. I’m sure I’ll be looking for another reward!
