The Alumni Athletic Complex and Burke Field
Thanks to $1.3 million in improvements, Houghton's tennis courts,
track, playing fields, and gym parking lot have a new look. In the
fall of 1998 a major overhaul of the lower-level fields was
initiated. A lighted 400-meter, eight-lane, all-weather track and a
multi-purpose soccer/field hockey game field were added. The
facility includes a 1,300 seat grandstand. In 1999, the all purpose
field was named Burke Field in honor of former men's soccer coach
Doug Burke and his wife, Esther. Also on the lower level is a new
field hockey field and practice fields. Six new tennis courts and a
large parking lot have been constructed on the area formerly
occupied by Alumni Field.
Houghton also has a downhill ski slope, cross country ski trails,
an initiatives ropes course, and wooded areas for hiking and
camping.
