Meet the Phonathon Team
Jordan from Syracuse, NY is a Junior studying vocal
music education. He intends to be a music teacher
at the high school or collegiate level. This is
his second semester working for the phonathon. He
says, "I enjoy working for the phonathon because I have
the opportunity to hear from different alumni and other
constituents of the college, as well as help Houghton's
students and community." In his spare time, he
plays guitar, sings, and likes to sail competitively.
Jill
from Bath, NY is a Junior studying Inclusive Childhood Education
and Intercultural Studies. This is her third year doing
phonathon. She says “I would like to get
an elementary teaching position and teach for a few
years, then go on the mission field --possibly teaching
in a different cultural setting.” Jill shares that “God
is teaching me that my life will not be completely
filled with Him unless I put everything and everyone
else after Him. I have a tendency to put activities and
friends and even schoolwork ahead of what God wants me
to learn and how He wants me to serve Him.” Her funniest
call happened “when I called a household that was
expecting a call from a girl named Jill (my name) and
the person answering the phone thought that it was the
Jill that they were expecting. It was very confusing to
try to explain that they weren't really expecting my
call.”
Rachel
from Cattaraugus, NY is a Junior Elementary PE major.
She is interested in sports, good books, family,
friends, and learning. She wants to be an
Elementary PE teacher after she finishes graduate
school.
Maddie
from Big Flats, NY is a Junior biology major with double
minors in missions and Spanish. This is her third year
doing phonathon. “I had a really tough
time deciding on a college. I knew I wanted a small
Christian liberal arts school (my uncle went here and
strongly encouraged me to consider Houghton) but I knew
I needed to go to the school that would be best for
me.
When I came to visit Houghton I had an amazing time;
worshiping, visiting classes, and spending time with
newly made friends. I was comfortable here and felt at
home. That's why I chose Houghton. I'm currently the
female chaplain for my class, a Resident Assistant in
Gillette Hall (formerly East Hall) and a member of the
pre-med club. The thing l like most about being a
Houghton Fund caller is to hear about what God has done
in Houghton graduates' lives and what Houghton was like
5, 20 and even 50 years ago!” After graduation “I'm
planning on going to medical school to become a medical
missionary in a Spanish speaking country.”
Shannon from
Romulus, NY is a Sophomore TESOL/Intercultural Studies
major with a minor in music. This is her second
year doing phonathon. She says, "I love talking to
people on the phone, especially when they take an
interest in my education and give me advice and
encouragement."
Jonathan
from Weedsport, NY is a Senior Religion major with
minors in Bible, Theology, and Intercultural Studies.
He has been a phonathon caller for one year. He
hopes to obtain a doctorate and teach at a Bible College
in Africa before returning and teaching either in Europe
or North America. He enjoys relaxing, hunting,
reading, landscaping, playing racquetball, and writing
papers.
