Philharmonia and College Choir Performance
The Houghton Philharmonia and College Choir will be presenting a music program on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 2:30 p.m. in the Angelica town Circle. The program will feature patriotic and time period music from the civil war era. There will also be various period readings and information as it relates to music and the civil war.
The program will culminate with a performance of the 1812 overture by the Houghton Philharmonia featuring cannon fire. This performance is to commemorate that 200th anniverary of the 1812 overture. Find out more on the 1812 Overture.
- The Houghton Philharmonia is under the direction of Conductor Brian Casey and features approximately 60 members and seeks to expose its audiences to the highest quality music written for string, wind and percussion instruments. This outstanding ensemble performs four major campus concerts per year, in addition to other performances.
- The Houghton College Choir is under the direction of Conductor Brandon Johnson and features 75 student singers. For 80 years the Houghton College Choir has committed itself to world-class performances rooted in the sacred a cappella tradition. Through regular touring they have performed in the most renowned concerts halls and churches across the United States and abroad.
