Summer in Tanzania

The summer program in Tanzania is seen as a total integrated group experience. For example, the Mini-Tanzania summer program will involve home-stays, instruction in camera operation and image quality as part of Digital Photography component, and lectures in African art and Art History. There is usually instruction in Swahili, the national language.

It should be stressed that the value of the credits awarded in the Mini-Tanzania program results from the willingness to participate in a lived experience in a foreign language, culture, and environment, intensely and around the clock. This is in addition to the coursework, which is intended to give focus and context to the students' experiences, but not detract from or compete with them. This is the intent – to present a truly holistic, relevant, and valuable learning experience for participants in the Tanzania summer program, and allow the lived, unquantifiable intangibles to create a formative experience.
