Houghton's Biology Program

Whether you wish to pursue research opportunities in public health or molecular biology, engage in a professional health care career as a doctor, dentist or physical therapist, or find your calling as a science teacher or lab technician, a Houghton degree in biology will prepare you well.

The Christian Distinctive

The biology department invites students to learn how to integrate faith and scientific principles, exploring with faculty the living world of God’s creation – from the subcellular level to the individual organism to populations and entire ecosystems – and garner real-world experience in the lab and out in the field.

Real-world Experience

As a biology major at Houghton, you will benefit from real-world experiences, including student-faculty collaborative research opportunities and hands on problem-solving at our Summer Research Institute conducting cutting-edge research, the kind typically done primarily in graduate school.

Our pre-medical practicum allows pre-med students the chance to shadow and serve with Houghton alumni physicians.

Study in diverse ecological environments ranging from western New York, Alaska and Tanzania.

After Houghton

Houghton alumni with a degree in biology can be found in diverse careers around the globe, from the tropical rainforests in the Congo building a hospital, to a zoo veterinarian, to a chief resident of emergency medicine at a major university hospital.
