Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Studies
Medical technologists (clinical laboratory scientists) are health-care professionals who provide vital clinical laboratory data to physicians to assist them in making critical health-care decisions. Careers in medical technology are robust with many clinical programs placing 100% of their graduates in jobs within one year of graduation. The Houghton College program in medical technology, leads to a BS in Biology with a minor in chemistry through three years of exciting hands-on scientific study at Houghton followed by a full-year clinical course of study at an affiliated hospital. Following successful completion of the senior year in the clinical program, students are qualified to sit for the national certification exams. The Board of Registry of Medical Technologists and the National Certification Agency administer these for medical personnel.
Houghton College is excited about our two outstanding regional clinical affiliations, Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY and Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.
In September of 2013 New York State changed the regulations for licensure of clinical laboratory scientists. We are excited to announce that in response, Houghton College has applied to NYS for a new Clinical Laboratory Science Major. All classes required for the major are currently offered on a regular basis. View course requirements. Following NYS approval, students completing the major, will be qualified to take the NYS licensure exam without an individual review of their curriculum by NYS.
