Addie ('07) and Andrew ('08) Silbert

Andrew (‘08) and Addie (‘07) Silbert met while touring as members of the Houghton College Choir in February 2006. They were married in August of 2007 and spent their first year of marriage in Fillmore, NY while Andrew finished his senior year at Houghton. They relocated to Addie’s home town of Clymer, NY in August of 2008. In April of 2009, Andrew and Addie purchased an old ice cream shop in Findley Lake, NY. In May, they opened Addie’s Ice Cream and Restaurant, specializing in 40 flavors of homemade ice cream. Two years later, they decided to close the restaurant and further develop their quickly expanding ice cream business.

In 2011, the Silberts welcomed their first child, Jovie, who was born at Women & Children’s Hospital in Buffalo. Jovie was born with congenital hydrocephalus, which is a rare neural defect that prevents the cerebrospinal fluid from flowing freely and circulating throughout the brain and spinal cord. Their second daughter, Eliza, was born on July 3rd, 2013. Eliza was born preterm and spent a week in the NICU for respiratory issues. The challenges of balancing a steadily growing business and a family have helped the Silberts understand Christ’s grace, love and faithfulness in a deeper sense.

Each year, Addie’s Ice Cream has continued to grow. The Silberts have worked hard to not only have a display room with 40 flavors of hand served ice cream, but also to acquire local vendors to distribute their ice cream. 2013’s success has created an opportunity for the Silberts to expand their business into the Houghton area. They hope to open a retail shop in downtown Houghton, while providing each 5Bites location with Addie’s Ice Cream beginning on the 27th of September.
