07:00 PM to 09:00 PM
An opening reception for the 24th Annual Student Juried Exhibition will be held on Saturday, March 16, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The reception will be held at Houghton College in the Center for the Arts atrium next to the Ortlip Art Gallery and will include live music and refreshments. This event is free and open to the public.
The exhibition features work by current Houghton students in a variety of media, including video, photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, book arts, ceramics, and printmaking.
Kevin Shook, assistant professor of art at Birmingham-Southern College, will judge the exhibition, along with members of the Houghton Art Department faculty. Shook will also meet with students and conduct critiques while on campus.
Numerous cash prizes will be awarded to the participating student artists.
“The beauty of this exhibit is its accessibility; it is open for any student to submit work to, not just art majors or minors,” said Renee Roberts, director of exhibitions at the Ortlip Art Gallery. “This draws a wide and varied assortment of students, both submitting their work and visiting the Gallery, and I find that particularly exciting and invigorating.”
The Ortlip Art Gallery is an all-purpose exhibition space in the Center for the Arts at Houghton College. The exhibit program of the Ortlip Gallery presents a diverse range of innovative exhibitions and educational programs offering insights into the work of established and emerging regional, national, and international artists and designers.
The exhibition will be open daily from March 15 through April 18. Visitors may browse the gallery from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, visit www.houghton.edu/ortlipgallery.
