07:00 PM to 10:00 PM
The opening reception of the 25th Annual Student Juried Art Exhibition will be Saturday, March 22, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m at Houghton College in the Center for the Arts atrium next to the Ortlip Art Gallery. The reception will include refreshments and is free and open to the general public.
The exhibition features work by current Houghton students in a variety of media, including photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, book art, ceramics and printmaking.
“The student juried exhibit is an exciting showcase of what is happening in the visual arts,” says Jillian Sokso, chair for the department of art.
Ian McMahon will judge the exhibition, along with the faculty of the Houghton Art Department. McMahon is a prominent visual artist living and working in the Southern Tier. He is the cofounder of the Belfry, an artist run exhibition space that focuses on community engagement. McMahon will also meet with students and conduct critiques while on campus.
“It’s a show we look forward to every year,” says Sokso. “Both for the celebration of creativity among our student body and the recognition of the visual art, design and media programs.”
Numerous prizes will be awarded to the participating student artists, including cash prizes.
The Ortlip Art Gallery is an all-purpose exhibition space in the Center for the Arts at Houghton College. The exhibit program of the Ortlip Gallery presents a diverse range of innovative exhibitions and educational programs offering insights into the work of established and emerging regional, national, and international artists and designers.
