Art Reception: Tatiana Ginsberg

November 15, 2013 | 07:00 PM to 09:00 PM

An opening reception for visiting artist, Tatiana Ginsberg, will be held on Friday, November 15, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The reception will be held in the Center for the Arts (CFA) atrium and will include comments by the artist at 7:30 p.m., followed by live music and refreshments. This is a free event, and all Houghton faculty, staff, students as well as the general public are invited to attend.

I Fear We Must Go, the exhibit being shown at Houghton, centers around large drawings on handmade paper. Using the projected shadows of decaying leaves, they are done in colored pencil on 40” x 60" sheets of handmade abaca paper. Inspired by the centenary of the British Antarctic Expedition of 1910–1913, also known as the Terra Nova expedition, the drawings are shown together with phrases from the final letters of Robert Falcon Scott, who perished on the return journey from the pole along with four companions.

Ginsberg is currently a visiting assistant art professor for Mount Holyoke College, specializing in printmaking and drawing.  Earlier in 2013, her work was featured as part of a group exhibition entitled The Art and Soul of Paper at Mandell’s gallery and Artshoproject both located in Norwich, England.

Ginsberg will speak to the fine arts seminar class on Thursday, November 14 at 6:00 p.m. in CFA room 145.  The public is welcome to sit in on this lecture.

The Ortlip Art Gallery is an all-purpose exhibition space in the CFA at Houghton College. The exhibit program of the Ortlip Gallery presents a diverse range of innovative exhibitions and educational programs offering insights into the work of established and emerging regional, national, and international artists and designers.

The above exhibit is open daily from November 15 until December 13. Visitors may browse the gallery from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, visit www.houghton.edu/art/ortlip-gallery.  To learn more about the artist, visit www.tatianaginsberg.org.
