This 2013 Christmas Prism, “Savior of the Nations, Come!” is an artistic exploration of the joy of Christmas, featuring over 200 performers, and will include both choral and orchestral music, as well as dance, visual art and poetry. The combination of artist expressions weaves into a single tapestry of great power.
Audience members have commented on past Prism performances:
“It was life changing…I have never had such a musical-spiritual experience.”
“Three curtain calls!”
“I have never been moved to tears at a musical performance before tonight.”
The ensembles include Symphonic Winds, Philharmonia, various instrumental chamber ensembles, College Choir, Men’s Choir, Women’s Choir and solo and small- group vocalists. The conductors will be Dr. Brandon Johnson, Justin Davis, Dr. David Davies and Kevin Dibble.
Dr. Johnson, director of choral activities at Houghton College, comments, saying, “Savior of the Nations, Come! Is an exhilarating program that highlights the creative energies of our entire campus community. This celebration of Christmas prepares our hearts for the coming of Christ and expresses our overwhelming joy when we recognize what God has done for each of us.”
Dr. David Davies will be conducting one of his original compositions for the Prism concert. “It’s a thrill to once again be working with our wonderful, gifted students on one of my pieces,” commented Davies. “Though this will not be the premiere performance of this particular work, it will be the Houghton premiere and it’s also the first time I’ve been asked to conduct it, which is special for me.”
