College Choir: East Coast Tour
February 27, 2014 - March 5, 2014 | 12:00 AM
On Saturday, February 15, the Houghton College Choir will have their inaugural performance of their 2014 east coast choir tour at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, N.Y. The 2014 tour will consist of ten performance dates at venues throughout New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia with a final concert at world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York City.
The Houghton College Choir is widely acclaimed for its artistry and sensitivity, and embraces a diverse range of music, from the Renaissance mass setting to the baroque motet and African American spiritual.
Dr. Brandon Johnson, director of the Houghton College Choir commented, “We Sing the Light is a diverse and eclectic collection of pieces that range from the early baroque through modern choral music.”
The concerts will include several pieces which have been composed in the past few years and will feature the 2013 winner of the inaugural Houghton College Sacred Choral Composition Competition, In Paradisum composed by Matthew J Olson. In addition, the included works of Bach, Clausen, Gretchaninoff, Hogan, Martin, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Tavener and Telemann will create an exciting collage of the best of the choral repertoire past and present.
For the final concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City on March 9, this year’s tour will also host the 2014 National Sacred Honor Choir
