Houghton Musical Theater Players: "The Drowsy Chaperone"
October 31, 2013 - November 2, 2013 | 07:30 PM to 09:00 PM
The Houghton College Musical Theater Players will present the Broadway musical “The Drowsy Chaperone” Thursday, October 31 through Saturday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m. nightly at the Houghton Academy. Tickets are $5.00 for students and senior citizens, $7.00 for adults and free for children age five and under and can be purchased at the door.
Musical Theater International, licenser of the musical states “…‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ boldly addresses a great unspoken desire in all of our hearts: to be entertained. It all begins when a die-hard musical-theater fan plays his favorite cast album on his turntable, and the musical literally bursts to life in his living room, telling the rambunctious tale of a brazen Broadway starlet trying to find, and keep, her true love.”
Director Rachel Spak ’14 says, “I selected the show because it was fun. It made me laugh. The music was catchy and automatically made me feel like dancing. The show doesn’t pretend to be anything, and it never takes itself too seriously. It is pure ridiculousness and chaos at its finest.”
Houghton Musical Theatre Players is a student run group with a single purpose: keeping the art of Broadway-style music alive at Houghton.
Says Spak, “We desire to create opportunities for students to grow, both by participating in musicals, and by simply adding an element of culture to the lives of those who come to watch our productions. We like to teach. We like to learn. We grow stronger in our abilities together. We embrace the power of musicals to move emotions and change lives. Most of all, we love God, and desire to dance and sing for His glory.”
