Houghton POPS Orchestra
February 15, 2013 | 07:30 PM to 08:30 PM
The Houghton Pops Orchestra will present Hearts of the Highlands II: A Song to Remember on Friday, February 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Wesley Chapel. Houghton Pops is currently under the direction of Robert Martin, an undergraduate music student.
This semester, Houghton Pops is returning to their Celtic theme with what they hope to be their “biggest performance yet”. The concert will include music from DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon as well as Disney’s Brave and other Celtic classics. “It will truly be a performance you will not forget,” said Martin.
The theme will resonate with the Houghton Highlanders, whose mascot comes from the Scottish Highlanders, a soldier located in a brigade in the Highlands of Scotland.
This is the Houghton Pops’ third concert since becoming a student organization. “…this orchestra is the definition of student involvement and student potential on campus,” said Martin. “The orchestra was created by students, and is completely run and managed by students.”
The Houghton Pops is a flexible group of about 50 orchestral musicians, including strings, winds, and percussion, composed of both music and non-music majors.
