Assistant or Associate Professor of Digital Communication
Full time. Tenure track. Fall 2014.
The Houghton College Department of Communication seeks a full time, tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor of Digital Communication. This is a new position with potential for input in the growth and development of new courses and departmental direction. Departmental philosophy integrates creative professional expertise with a strong commitment to liberal arts education in the Christian tradition. Faculty are not only technical experts in their fields, but also actively engaged in ongoing conversation about the impact of their students' work throughout society in areas of social justice, public discourse, global concerns, and cultural relevance.
Responsibilities: Teaching responsibilities include design, web development and interactive/social media. Additional areas of instruction are possible, depending on expertise (e.g. 3D modeling/animation, computer animation.) Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to provide expert technical instruction in a studio environment as well as skill in classroom lecture. Additional faculty expectations include ongoing professional activity and service to the college and department through committee membership and student advising.
Qualifications: Terminal degree (PhD or MFA) preferred, although a terminal degree in progress with appropriate professional experience in the field will be considered. Minimum of three years of collegiate teaching experience with demonstrated effectiveness. Evidence of scholarship and/or strong studio skills as demonstrated by a record of professional achievement and/or exhibition. Personal commitment to the Christian faith and the integration of faith and learning in both the classroom and professional practice.
Must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States by the time the appointment is scheduled to begin.
Salary: Faculty rank and salary commensurate with education and experience.
