Assistant or Associate Professor of Education: Literacy Focus

Houghton College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position as Assistant/ Associate Professor in the Department of Education, starting Fall 2018.

Review of applications begins December 1, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled. Preference will be given to candidates with completed terminal degrees. 

The successful candidate will have focused responsibilities in literacy education at the undergraduate and graduate (masters) level, including the teaching of courses that emphasize literacy across developmental levels and content areas.  Additional teaching responsibilities could include course work in differentiated curriculum, assessment and instruction; and/or course work in educational foundations. Other responsibilities include academic advising, mentoring of student teachers, and building educational partnerships.

A terminal degree in the field of education with a literacy focus is required at the time of hire. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in foundations of literacy development, content-area literacies and pedagogies, English methods, and classroom teaching experience.  Expertise in literacy for diverse learners (e.g. students with disabilities, English language learners, etc.), facility with online instruction, educational technologies and responsive course delivery models is expected.A maturing Christian faith, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to mentor students are vital qualities.
