Assistant/Associate Professor of Psychology

Houghton College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in the Department of Psychology at the assistant or associate level starting in the fall semester of 2018. Recognized for academic excellence and educational value, Houghton College is a selective, Christian liberal arts and sciences institution that attracts students from across the United States and abroad.
The psychology program at Houghton emphasizes graduate school preparation. Most of our 50 psychology majors are full-time and on-campus, and the major is also offered at an extension site in Buffalo and online. Opportunities for students include an active psychology club, a chapter of Psi Chi, internships, and collaborative research, including an honors research emphasis.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach courses on the Houghton campus and online in various sub-disciplines of psychology and in the candidate’s area of specialization. Candidates with experience or a strong interest in teaching Introduction to Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Family Studies, Physiological Psychology, or Social Psychology may be given preference. Other responsibilities include sharing in academic advising of students, service on college committees, contributing to the development of new academic programs, and representing the department and college to prospective students and their families. Organizing a research program to involve motivated students is desired.
Qualifications: This position requires a Ph. D. in psychology.
Also required is ability to help students form respectful attitudes and interactions with people who differ in abilities, attitudes, and cultural experience, with sensitivity to factors that affect our own assessment of others.
Other important qualities for this position include a commitment to excellence and creativity in undergraduate teaching, a mature Christian faith, and an ability to integrate Christian faith with psychology in research and teaching.
