Teaching Philosophy

  • My teaching philosophy is to set up a structure that will allow students to learn accounting if they choose to do so. Accounting is best learned by doing, so I incorporate multiple opportunities for students to try what we are learning for themselves. To make the subject matter come alive, I weave in examples of how students might see this applying in the world around them and their future careers. Finally, when appropriate, we play games to make it more fun.

Why do I teach?

The world desperately needs accountants who know what integrity is. I love teaching at Houghton College because I feel free to discuss how our Christian faith should affect our attitudes and behaviors as it applies specifically to the study of accounting.
