December 2014 - Jeans and Java
This month for Jeans and Java we will be highlighting Quickprint and the Campus Post Office:
Didi Hodge- Senior Postal Clerk
I started here May or June 2001, (I believe?) hard to remember exactly. I was a medical receptionist at a physician’s office before coming here. Though I really loved my job there I wanted a change. This is the only office that I have worked in since starting at Houghton, I don’t think I’d ever want to move, I love it here in my Post office!
I am the manager of the Campus Post Office, and supervise the Quick Print center. I basically (try) to keep things running as smoothly as possible with the incoming and outgoing packages and mail. Sorting, distributing, delegating and delivering is what I do.
I have 2 children, a 29 year old son who has been in the U.S. Air Force for 11 ½ years. He is married with 2 beautiful daughters age 5 and 3. Currently living in N.J., was previously stationed in California, Okinawa, and England. We skype as much as possible to find out how everyone’s days went and what happened in kindergarten today. My amazing daughter, 28 years old lives closer to me in Ellicottville with a beautiful little boy who is 2. She is a cosmetologist and also works at Pioneer credit. My grandchildren are the lights of my life!! They are true little gifts from God and count my blessings every day that I have them in my life.
My husband Doug and I like to hike, walk, bike ride, spend as much time outside as we can. Our favorite pastime together is hanging out with our kids and grandkids, there is nothing better!
I love to cook, clean, sew. I love to go to Zumba, and swim with my father at UB on the weekends. I also love working here at Houghton. The students that I meet and the friendships that I make are amazing. I am blessed to be around so many wonderful people and it just adds rewards and joy to my already pretty great life.
I am so excited for the future of Houghton, and can’t wait to see what God has in store for us here.
Arleen Jennings- Quick Print Operator
Arleen Jennings, Quick Print operator, started working at Houghton in January 2009. She was not looking for a job, but her sister-in-law encouraged her to apply, and she’s glad she did.
Before starting at Houghton, Arleen was a stay-at-home mom to five kids, homeschooling each through the third grade (4 out of the 5 are Houghton grads). She is the published author of the book Created to be Creative – find purpose and fulfillment through creative outlets. She enjoys drawing, painting, quilting, gardening, writing and home renovating projects. Arleen loves God’s Word and can be found preaching at her church on a fairly frequent basis.
Arleen lives in Angelica with Ron, her husband of 35 years. With all their children grown and gone, they are enjoying the next chapter of their lives – especially the new titles of “Pa” and “Meme” as the family expands.
