Student Financial Services

Marianne Loper:
I have worked at Houghton College for about twenty years. The majority of my time has been spent in Admissions and Student Financial Services. I am currently the Director of Student Financial Services. It is my job to help make a Houghton education financially possible for every student on campus. Each year this becomes more challenging as federal and state regulations change along with their funding adjustments. I find my tasks challenging but hope I am helping others to reach their goal. I have been married to my husband Jason for sixteen years and we have two children Jenna (ten) and Gregory (eight). You can find us relaxing and enjoying life either in our barn with our Tunis sheep or traveling with our camper attached.

Audrey Pocock:
I started working in the Student Financial Services Office in 2004. Before that my husband and I were missionaries for seventeen years under Wesleyan World Missions in several different countries. I was a stay-at-home mom and my husband taught Bible School. We both graduated from Houghton in 1979, and all four of our children and our two daughters-in-law are also graduates. We love this rural setting. It is truly home. Our favorite thing to do is visit our children who live in four different states. We also bike ride and kayak together. I have serious history with Houghton College. My grandfather started teaching here in 1908, my father worked as the college printer for forty years, and my brother Charlie Smith works in the maintenance department.

Ryan Cool:
I began my work at Houghton College in July of 2002 as a PC Support Technician in the Technology Services Office. I then transitioned to the Technology Administrator position in that same department a few years later. In November, 2013 I moved to the SFSO office to fill the role of Manager of Technical Services and Student Accounts. I work to produce accurate and timely student billing statements, manage student accounts, collect student payments, and compile financial aid reports for internal use and publication. Before coming to Houghton I worked in a number of sales and management positions at Galyan’s Trading Company’s flagship store in Castleton, IN. My wife, Robin, has chosen to stay married to me for over fourteen years and we have three boys: Mason (eleven), Jackson (eight), and Sam (six). I enjoy skiing and exploring the woods with my family. Over the years I have learned to never pet a burning dog, to never play leap-frog with unicorns, and to never spit into the wind.

Sheri Reynolds:
I have been with Houghton College since July 1999, starting with the Athletics and PE/REC Departments as Office Manager for fourteen years and then moving to Student Financial Services where I now serve as their Student Accounts Specialist. I process all payments made to students’ accounts, work with students and parents on billing questions and payment options and oversee the Perkins Loans after they are awarded to students. My husband/best friend of thirty-one years (Rich, part-time HC security officer) and I are parents to two girls, Kaylan (Reynolds) Buteyn ’09 and Maggie Reynolds ’16. We also have a son-in-law, John Buteyn ’08 and a grandson Finley Reynolds Buteyn who is two, who is the JOY of our lives. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, cooking and baking, traveling, reading, walking, hiking, kayaking & bike riding. Its winter in WNY again, so I am again counting down the months (ok……years) to the day when I can retire and move south to escape the cold and be closer to our children and grandkid(s) and become a full-time, stay-at-home Marmie.

Susanna Roorbach:
I had a work study job with Student Financial Services as a student at Houghton College from 2008 –2012. After my graduation in May 2012, I became employed full-time as a financial aid counselor. My main responsibilities include loans and federal grants. I’m married to Andrew, who also graduated from Houghton in 2012. I coach the varsity girls’ basketball team at Houghton Academy and I also enjoy baking, shopping, volunteering in the church nursery and one year old Sunday School class, watching sports, and spending time with Andrew and my family.

Isabeau Higdon:
I graduated from Houghton in May, 2014. Having been a student worker in SFSO for three years, I applied and was hired for a position that opened in spring of 2014. I fill the roles of a receptionist as well as working with Perkins loans, TAP, Federal Work Study, and non-current accounts. My brother, Navarre, is a U.S. Marine stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, South Carolina. My parents are living and working overseas with Wycliffe Bible Translators while my sister, Abigail, is finishing her senior year of high school at Dakar Academy in Sénégal. I enjoy baking, reading, photography, candles, adventures, driving, and an occasional run.
