Counselors
New York State Health Regulations require 24 hour continuous visual or verbal supervision of campers age eighteen and under. Houghton College follows these regulations and requires specific supervision ratios based on number of children and the activities that they are performing.
Gillette Hall
Formerly
known as East Hall, Gillette Hall is Houghton's largest residential
facility, housing over 330 people. The center section of
Gillette was constructed in 1953 with the first wing being added in
1959 and the second in 1964, completing its familiar H shape.
In recent years, Gillette has been carpeted throughout, wired for
the Internet in each room, and cable television in the lounges.
Gillette offers more rooming options than our other buildings with
singles, doubles, triples, and quads. Most of the rooms have a
sink or sink room.
Lambein Hall
Lambein was built in 1973 and houses 150 people. It
features larger lounges on the first and fourth floors. The
other floors each feature a lounge, study room, ironing room, prayer
chapel, and kitchenette. An elevator nicknamed "Otis" connects
the six floors. As are all of our residence halls, Lambein is
carpeted throughout, wired for the Internet in all rooms, and cable
television in the lounges. Lambein's most popular feature is
its view of the Houghton Creek out the windows of its west side.
Rothenbuhler Hall
Formerly known as South Hall, Rothenbuhler's four floors are
built in a community style with nine rooms clustered around a common
lounge, kitchenette, study room, and restroom. The first floor
also houses a main desk/store, and the Resident Director apartment.
As is true of all of Houghton's residential facilities, Rothenbuhler
Hall has rooms wired for Internet access, lounges wired for cable
television, and carpeting throughout.
Shenawana
Known as "The House of Brave Men," Shenawana has long been a
popular housing location for sports camps due to its proximity to
the athletic facilities. The Nielsen Physical Education Center
is its neighbor, and on the other side is the path to the Athletic
Fields, Ski Slope, and Ropes Course. Shenawana, as is the case
with our other halls, is carpeted throughout, has rooms wired for
the Internet, and lounges wired for cable television.
Randall, Leonard Houghton, Hazlett and Perkins Townhouses
Houghton has 29 townhouse units on campus. Most units can
hold seven or eight people. Each townhouse has four bedrooms,
two bathrooms, a large living room and a kitchen. The kitchen
comes with a refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, and a dishwasher.
The bedrooms come with a dresser, chair, desk and a bed for each
guest, and the living room has a sofa and table. There are
Internet hookups in the bedrooms, and cable hookup in the living
room. With plenty of open living area, townhouses frequently
accommodate guests for weddings and special occasions, such as
family reunions. Leaders and administrative directors of
larger camps or conferences may choose townhouse facilities over
dorm use for the feel of community the townhouse offers.
College Flats (apartments)
The College Flats are apartments that hold up to four people. Most flats have two bedrooms, a large bathroom, a large living room, and a kitchen. The kitchen comes with a refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, and a dishwasher. The bedrooms come with a dresser, chair, desk, and a bed for each guest, and the living room has a sofa and table. There are Internet hookups in the bedrooms, and the living room has a cable hookup.
