Houghton Riding Camp 2008
Have you always wanted to own your own horse? Try adopting one for a few weeks instead.
Girls ages 10-16 are invited to attend a very special riding camp
for one to four weeks. Riders at all levels of experience are
welcome. Boys are invited to come for co-ed week.
You may bring your own horse, or you will adopt a horse for your stay and will be responsible for his care, for cooling him off with a hose bath, for giving him a vacation on a trail ride, and for schooling him in the ring. Daily riding lessons, trail rides, and dismounted lessons can help you earn awards with the International CHA.
Unlike the traditional rustic camp, you will be living in college dorms, feasting in the college dining hall, and swimming in the school's indoor pool. A van will bring you up to the equestrian center in the morning and will return you to campus for activities such as swimming, racquetball, ropes course initiatives, and viewing videos of your riding or instructional lessons.
The college will provide qualified teachers and counselors who
are committed Christians and who will strive to make your stay a
great one.
Parents of campers and other adults are invited to participate in a riding vacation too. Our "family camp" will give you a chance to learn or perfect the horsemanship skills you always wanted while riding with your kids. Perspective students and incoming freshman that want to get a head start on their riding education are welcome to join this week as well.
Houghton College also offers an Adult Dressage Camp, with instruction by Eddo Hoekstra and Jo-Anne Young (2 private lessons each day for each camper, plus a lecture class)
- Room in college dorm, meals in college dining hall, stabling for the camper's horse all included
- Cost: $475 per week. Adult Dressage Camp- $500
