Student Information

What does my fee include?

Your fee includes all conference sessions and workshops, information packet, NCMSLC 2009 t-shirt, student lodging, and all Friday and Saturday meals (including the semi-formal banquet on Saturday evening).  Transportation to/from the airport can be provided for an extra fee.  Information on advisor housing can be found on the Advisor Information page.

Where will I be staying?

Many students will be housed with volunteer Houghton students in the residence halls.  Because Houghton is a small campus, we may have to get creative with student housing.  Some students may be housed in dorm lounges, the (carpeted) Houghton Auxiliary Gymnasium, or at off-campus locations within walking distance of campus.

What should I wear?

Dress casually and comfortably for the conference.  Semi-formal attire is requested for the banquet on Saturday night.  Students wishing to use the Nielsen Center gymnasium (which contains basketball courts, a swimming pool, an indoor track and a fitness center) should bring athletic clothing.

What’s the weather like?

Late October weather in western New York can vary greatly.  Typical conditions include highs around 50 with lows around 35.  However, it is not unheard of to have a late October snowstorm with temperatures below freezing.  Come prepared for both mild and cold/snowy weather.

What should I bring?

We recommend bringing the following items:

  • Sleeping bag
  • Pillow
  • Towel
  • Toiletries
  • Bible, notebook, and pen
  • A small gift for your host student(s)
  • Warm clothing in case we have an early winter
