Assistant or Associate Professor of Chemistry

Two-thirds to Full Time.  Academic year 2012-2013.

Houghton College, a Christian liberal arts institution nationally recognized by U.S. News and World Report, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, faculty appointment in the Department of Chemistry; a growing department that actively involves students in collaborative research projects.

Responsibilities: 

Course load includes one, three credit hour lecture course and three, three-hour lab sections of up to 25 students.  In addition to lectures, responsibilities include directing, managing, and teaching all General Chemistry laboratory sections with the help of undergraduate teaching assistants.

Topics for the fall semester involve theories and principles of modern chemistry: stoichiometry, atomic theory, structure and bonding, and properties of matter. 

Topics for the spring semester include description and control of chemical reactions: equilibrium, thermodynamics, kinetics, electrochemistry, coordination compounds, nuclear, and organic chemistry. 

Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Chemistry with a proven track record of teaching at the introductory collegiate level.  Candidates with backgrounds in the areas of environmental, health and safety or laboratory management could be considered for additional hours up to a full time teaching load.   

Salary and Rank:  Assignment of salary and rank is dependent upon education and experience.
