Assistant Professor of Communication & Media Arts

Full time. Tenure-track.  Fall 2012.

Houghton College, a Christian liberal arts institution nationally recognized by U.S. News and World Report, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, faculty appointment in the Department of Communication with focus on Media & Visual Arts.

This is a new position with potential for input in the development and implementation of new courses, as well as the overall direction of the department.  We seek to integrate creative professional expertise with a commitment to liberal arts education in a Christian tradition.  Faculty are not only technically proficient in their fields, but also actively engaged in ongoing conversations about the impact of their students' work throughout society in areas of social justice, public discourse, global engagement and cultural relevance.

Responsibilities:  Candidates with MFA and relevant creative professional experience should be prepared to develop and deliver a curriculum (3/4 studio and 1/4 lecture/seminar) in web development, interactive/social media, and related areas; Studio instruction in software for graphic design, web communication, and interactive design.  Position is open to instruction in areas where candidates hold additional expertise, such as 3D modeling /animation, computer animation, etc.  Committee participation and ongoing professional development also expected.

Qualifications:  Related terminal degree and creative professional experience.  

Salary and Rank:  Assignment of faculty rank and salary is dependent upon education and experience.
