Education: Interim Position
One-year, interim.
Beginning the fall semester of 2010.
The successful
candidate will work with a highly-qualified group of faculty
colleagues who are committed to developing future educators who are
competent scholars, reflective teachers and caring servants.
The education department at Houghton College features:
* Over 200 students in majors leading to teacher certification
in one of the following areas:
adolescence education (grades 7-12), inclusive childhood education
(dual certificate in childhood education and students with
disabilities, grades 1-6), music education (grades K-12), physical
education (grades K-12), physical education/health (dual
certificate, grades K-12), and teaching English to speakers of other
languages (grades K-12)
* Opportunities to mentor students in practicum and student
teaching experiences in area schools
* Outlets for collaborative research with students and
creative partnerships with K-12 education colleagues
Responsibilities:
Teach courses in foundations of education and/or content-area
methods, supervise/mentor student teachers, assist in the advisement
of students, participate in departmental meetings, and other
relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
An earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education; effective communication
skills; the ability to plan, organize and deliver course content
with clarity; a mature Christian faith. (Middle/high school teaching
experience desired.)
