Associate Dean for Music and Director of the Greatbatch School of Music
Associate or full professor, depending on
candidate's qualifications, training, and experience. Probationary,
tenure-track, with option for early tenure consideration.
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in
music, and a record of successful and creative leadership in music
administration. Also expected are relevant teaching,
scholarship, and/or performance experience sufficient for graduate
faculty appointment, a personal commitment to Christ and to the
integration of the Christian faith with artistic and scholarly
pursuits, and an understanding of and appreciation for the
relationship between music and the Church.
Responsibilities: The successful
candidate will provide leadership, direction, vision, and
responsible budgetary oversight, and should have a history of strong
collaborative faculty leadership and experience, both within and
outside the music department. Strong communication and
relational skills are a must, and strategic planning experience is
desirable. Pro-active student recruitment and continued
contribution to the excellence of departmental faculty are essential
and on-going responsibilities. Teaching (normally 0.25-load or
less) as appropriate to the candidate’s area of expertise is also
expected.
Salary: Depending on rank of
initial appointment, based on candidate's qualifications, training
and experience.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC
The Greatbatch School of Music at
Houghton College has been a fully accredited member of NASM since
1946, and is recognized as one of the flagship programs of the
institution. The School of Music offers the B.Mus. in Music
Education, Performance, Composition, Music with Elective Studies, as
well as a BA option. Undergraduate enrollment is approximately
125 majors.
The School of Music also enjoys a
dedicated endowment of fifteen million dollars to support graduate
programs in music, including 15-20 graduate student assistantships
annually. Masters programs offered include the M.Mus. in
performance, conducting, composition, and collaborative performance,
as well as the MA in music.
The School of Music currently operates
with twelve full time and approximately 15 part time faculty.
The Greatbatch School of
Music is housed in two linked facilities. The Center for the Arts is
an inviting state-of-the-art building occupied in 1999 which
features spacious teaching studios, ample practice rooms, fully
wired multi-media classrooms, a superb recital hall with digital
recording studio and instrumental rehearsal facilities. An art
gallery is also housed in the CFA. This facility connects
directly to Wesley Chapel, which contains a 1200-seat auditorium
with 61-rank Holtkamp electro-pneumatic pipe organ. Also included
are additional rehearsal and practice spaces. The School of
Music also shares use of a 29-stop mechanical action organ,
completed in 2008 by James Louder & Associates and housed in nearby
Houghton Wesleyan Church.
