GRACE Features

My Account

You can log into GRACE and view the items you have checked out, renew items, and place/cancel holds on items. You can also change your PIN. You can also ask GRACE to "Tell You When" certain authors and subjects have newly arrived in the library.

Placing a Hold on an Item in GRACE

If you search the online public access catalog and discover that an item you want is checked out to someone else, you can place a hold on it.

  • Perform a search and view the results list.
  • Click on the Details icon to the left of any item in the list. You will see information about that item.
  • Click on the "Place Hold" link to the left of the item information. (Below the Keep button.)
  • If you are not logged into your account when you perform the search, you will be asked to log in using your Campus-Wide ID and My Account PIN. (If you have already logged into a My Account session, then you will not have to log in again to place the hold.)
  • Once you have logged in, you will be able to determine when the hold should expire. You can also use the relevant pull down menu to select a pickup location for the held item, but keep in mind that your chosen library should be the library where the item normally resides.  Main-library books would not typically be sent to the music library for pickup, for example. You will receive an email message when the item is available for you to pick up.

Note: you cannot place a hold on any item that is on the shelf, on an Interlibrary Loan item checked out to another person, or on an electronic book.

Using "Tell Me When" in GRACE

If you wish to be informed when a new item by a particular author or subject area has been added to the collection, you can find that author or subject in GRACE and then take advantage of the "Tell Me When" feature.

  • Log into your account in GRACE.
  • Perform a search and view the results list.
  • Click on the Details icon to the left of any item in the list. You will see information about that item.
  • Click on one of the "Tell me when . . ." links on the left side of the screen. You will see a thank you message. Press OK.
  • Once each week, we run a  report that will send an email to you informing you about catalog additions that meet your criteria.
  •

Note 1:

We recommend keeping the default time period at 30 days.

Note 2:

Once you receive an alert about a newly acquired item, we invite you to visit the library and ask about checking it out, if that is your wish. Since the "hold" function only applies to items that are not on the shelf, brand-new items typically will not be eligible to have a hold placed on them.

Using the "Keep" Feature in GRACE

  1. If you wish to create a list of citations from items in GRACE so that you can print them out or email them to yourself, take advantage of the 'Keep' feature.
  2. You do not have to be logged into My Account to use this feature.
  • Perform a search and view the results list.
  • Click on the Details icon to the left of any item in the list. You will see information about that item.
  • Press the 'Keep' button so that it changes to 'Remove'.
  • Repeat number 2 until you have gathered sufficient citations.
  • Press the 'Kept' link toward the top of the screen. You will see a listing of the items. You can View the citations in Brief mode or in Full mode (depending on your choice in the drop-down menu). You can print the list or you can email it to yourself if you input your email address in the appropriate box.
  •

Note 1:

If you 'X' out of your browser, the list will disappear. So, make sure you print out or email the list prior to that.

Note 2:

You can press the 'Keep' button to the left of any of the items in the results list. Then, you may go to step 5.
