What will I learn?

Through Houghton’s Mathematics program, you will gain mathematical thinking and communication skills as you:

  • Learn mathematics by doing mathematics
  • Engage in coursework in Calculus, Algebra, Analysis, Number Theory, Probability, Differential Equations, Proofs, & non-Euclidean Geometry
  • Discover that math is a creative discipline, allowing you to participate in the creative nature of God
  • Pursue a double major in Data Science, if desired

Hands-on Learning

To learn mathematics, you need to do mathematics. As a mathematics major, you are actively involved in your learning with your fellow students and your professors. Enjoy a very active class environment and experience mathematics inside and outside of the classroom.

Research Opportunities

Enjoy the opportunity to engage in collaborative research opportunities. This includes a yearly seminar course that allows you to investigate unsolved mathematics problems in small groups with a professor. Additional opportunities are possible through Houghton's Shannon Summer Research Institute.
