Symphonic Winds Presents “Urbo-Rural”
The Houghton College Symphonic Winds and Chamber Wind Ensemble will perform a concert titled “Urbo-Rural” on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. in Wesley Chapel. This concert is free and open to the public.
The Symphonic Winds ensemble, conducted by Dr. Brian Casey and graduate conductors Ethan Hall and Rachel Smith, is comprised of both music majors and non-majors, including some players from the community.
“Urbo-Rural is a concocted term to refer to the blending of city and country elements,” said Casey.
“This will definitely be a unique concert for Symphonic Winds,” states Hall, “Our program includes music ranging from the jazzy blues of the city nightlife and harsh chaos of the traffic, to the peaceful county air and the gaiety of a carnival ferris wheel.”
Saturday’s concert will feature works by Percy Grainger, William Schuman, Charles Ives, Julie Girous, John Harbison and others. This is one of the ensemble’s four major concerts that will be performed this year and their last home concert before their annual tour in March.
