Symphonic Winds Presents ‘Yuletide at Home’

Houghton College’s Symphonic Winds will perform a special Christmas program titled “Yuletide at Home” on Friday, December 9th, 2011 at 8 p.m. in Wesley Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.

Holiday classics such as “Sleigh Ride” and “A Christmas Festival” will be a part of the performance, as well as Jason Nitsch’s arrangement of the carol “In the Bleak Midwinter.” Director Dr. Brian Casey and the ensemble will add a Russian flair to the evening with Alfred Reed’s powerful work “Russian Christmas Music” and music by Sergei Prokofiev. Graduate students Ethan Hall and Rachel Smith will both conduct during the program.

Symphonic Winds is a wind band of approximately 60 members and seeks to expose its students and its audiences to the highest quality music written for wind and percussion instruments. Made up of approximately 65 percent music majors and 35 percent non-majors, including players from the surrounding community, this outstanding ensemble performs four major campus concerts per year, in addition to other performances.
