For the past decade Mark Yuly, a physics professor at Houghton, has been working on a miniature cyclotron—with a lot of help from his students. In 2010, Houghton College in New York hosted the world’s first known small cyclotron conference. Only a few dozen DIY nerds attended, but what the small cyclotron community lacks in size it makes up for in commitment and verve.
