Chris Brubeck’s Triple Play Joins Houghton Artist Series Lineup

Houghton University is pleased to welcome Chris Brubeck’s Triple Play to the Wesley Chapel stage on Friday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the 2018-2019 Artist Series lineup.

Triple Play is comprised of three versatile musicians:  Peter “Madcat” Ruth on harmonica, guitar, jaw harp, percussion, and vocals; Joel Brown on folk and classical acoustic guitar and vocals; and Chris Brubeck on electric bass, bass trombone, piano, and vocals. The trio’s diverse repertoire encompasses Delta blues, Tin Pan Alley standards, New Orleans grooves, jazz pieces, and incisive originals. With all three contributing vocals, Triple Playdelivers an epic sojourn through American music.

With an ever-expanding repertoire, the trio continues to play in concert halls, clubs, and festivals, including performing many of Chris’s symphonic arrange­ments with orchestras across the U.S.

The ensemble’s live performance is documented on its first CD, Triple Play Live, recorded at one of its college concerts. The group’s second CD, Watching the World, was recorded in studios across the country.

Triple Play’s most recent CD, Live at Arthur Zankel Music Center, features two patriarchs as special guests: piano legend Dave Brubeck and gifted jazz player Frank Brown on clarinet.
