Houghton College kicks off Homecoming Weekend with Guest Speaker Robert Van Dyk

Houghton College will begin its Homecoming celebrations on Friday, October 4, with a chapel featuring Robert Van Dyk, the president and CEO of the Van Dyk Health Care facility in Ridgewood, N.J. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. in Wesley Chapel and is open to the public.

Continuing through the weekend, there will be a number of activities available, including a live music performance by multi-platinum Christian rock group Sanctus Real, an alumni art show, special guest appearance by internet photo-bombing sensations: Beardo and Dreads, golf tournament, 5K run/walk and reunion class gatherings, among others. Along with Van Dyk Health Care, Van Dyk is a founder and principal of Assisted Living Training Associates, a professional organization specializing in the training of assisted living administrators and ancillary personnel.

Van Dyk received his bachelor’s in business management from Fairleigh Dickinson University and holds a master’s from George Washington University in health care administration. He has over 30 years’ experience in the health care field.

He is the immediate past chairman of the American Health Care Association and the past chairman of the National Center for Assisted Living, and serves on the executive committee and board of governors of both associations.

Van Dyk is also the immediate past chairman of the Houghton College President’s Advisory Board and sits on the college’s board of directors. He was selected to serve on the White House Conference on Aging in Washington, D.C., and holds many other committee appointments at the state and national levels. He was a member of the policy committee that wrote the regulations for assisted living in New Jersey.

Van Dyk authored a quarterly column in the Assisted Living Newsletter of AHCA/NCAL, and in 2007 he authored a chapter in the Residential Care/Assisted Living Administrators Exam Study Guide prepared by the National Association of Boards of Examiners of Long Term Care Administrators Inc. He has published numerous articles and is a frequent speaker on long-term care and assisted living.
