Houghton University Lyric Theatre Presents Oklahoma!

February 27, 2018

Houghton University Lyric Theatre is proud to present musical theater classic Oklahoma! The March 15-17 performances will take place in Wesley Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens, and $8 for children and Houghton students.

Set in Oklahoma territory at the beginning of the 20th century, the musical portrays the rivalry between local farmers and cowboys. This contest provides the setting in which the love story of two headstrong romantics – cowboy Curly McLain and farm girl Laurey Williams – unfolds.

The main cast includes seniors Kingsley Kolek and Angela Matson; juniors Michaella Aliperti, Derek Chase, Lauren Grifoni; sophomores Daniel Bussey, Natalie Kyvik, and Juwan Moore; freshman Ethan Bast; and graduate student Kaleigh Kenney.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be working with a group of such talented and hard-working actors and crew in this charming production,” says director Amanda Cox, instructor of voice at Houghton and director of Lyric Theatre. “Oklahoma! is filled with such well-loved songs and nostalgia, and we know that our audiences will be drawn into the emotion and excitement of the story, and will leave with a song in their hearts.”

Oklahoma! is being presented through special arrangement with Rodgers & Hammerstein Theatricals (R&H). R&H is a music publishing company, a music rental library, and a theatrical licensing branch that owns the rights to many popular musicals, including The King and I and The Sound of Music.
