Major Offerings Added to the Adult Education Program

Houghton College Adult Education has announced new degree and major offerings beginning in March. In addition to the current bachelor of science degree, Houghton is adding a bachelor of business administration degree with major focuses in: management, human resources management, leadership development, and integrated marketing and communication.

“For several years now Houghton’s adult degree program has set the standard for others to follow by offering a general degree in management that broadly applies to many different professions, industries, and positions,” states Ken Bates, a long standing professor in the Adult Education program. “The degree has catapulted the careers of nurses, accountants, technicians, engineers, salespersons, and entrepreneurs alike further in their careers. While we will continue to provide this now popular option, we’re thrilled to now also offer more focused degree options.”

The college will offer full online programs in addition to the new degrees and majors.

Scott McClelland, dean of extension studies for Houghton, states, “This expansion of our well-received Adult Education program provides additional options for our busy adults who are determined to complete their bachelors’ degree. Not only will we be offering new majors, but will also be providing increased options for how they are delivered. Soon, our adults will be able to take courses face-to-face, online, or a combination of the two. We believe this will optimize our students’ ability to succeed.”

Established in 1991, the Houghton College Adult Education program (formerly known as P.A.C.E.) has allowed adults the ability to complete their bachelor's degree quickly and conveniently in as little as 17 months. The program has since expanded to locations in Olean (1993), Jamestown (2002), and Lockport (2013).

Houghton’s Adult Education will host an open house on Tuesday, January 21 and Tuesday, February 11 from 4-7 p.m. at the West Seneca location: 2732 Transit Road. The Lockport location will also hold an open house on Tuesday, January 14 and Tuesday, February 4from 4-7 p.m. at the Kenan Center located at 433 Locust Street in Lockport, N.Y.
