The Martín-Melitón Piano Duo – hailed by critics and audiences alike for its compelling talent and authority in the realm of Spanish two-piano music – will perform at Houghton College on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in Wesley Chapel. The duo comes to the college as part of the 2017-2018 Artist Series lineup.

Through numerous collaborations with Spanish embassies and cultural institutions throughout the world, duo-pianists Elena Martín and Jose Melitón are considered the ambassadors of two-piano music from Spain. They have received enthusiastic acclaim as guest artists in festivals, concert series, master classes, and workshops in more than 30 states in the United States as well as in fine music halls throughout the world.

One of the duo’s most unique characteristics is its use of Martín's own transcriptions for two pianos. These masterful reconstructions constitute a splendid addition to the musical literature for two pianos. Together they have conquered even the most critical audiences in the United States, Europe, and Asia, performing more than a dozen original transcriptions of music by various Spanish composers.

Martín and Melitón also perform standard two-piano repertoire, including works for two pianos and orchestra.

“Seldom do we encounter such an incredible combination of high musicianship and a true international flavor in a group’s repertoire in the way that we find in the Martín-Melitón Duo,” says Armenio Suzano, dean of the Greatbatch School of Music. “This concert is bound to generate great response and appreciation to all music lovers who enjoy this rare combination of fine artistry and the international flavors of music.”
